10 Figures Who Completely Reshaped Comic Book History

5. The Founders Of Image

Similar to Siegel and Shuster, the founders of Image Comics need to be considered as one unit to truly grasp their impact.

Comprising the lamest comic super group of Todd McFarlane, Jim Lee, Whilce Portacio, Marc Silvestri, Erik Larson, Jim Valentino and Rob Liefeld, Image was founded in 1992 as way for creators to maintain copyright and control over the characters they created. Not quite as good as the Avengers coming together to defeat Loki, but there you are.

Image effectively challenged the dominance of DC and Marvel, combining the experience and name recognition of its founders with the ethos of an independent publisher. Image would expand and bring others to the fold, including Brian K. Vaughn and his masterful Saga and Robert Kirkman with his Walking Dead. Not sure if Image can be blamed for the bleh-fest that is the Walking Dead TV show though.
