4. Alan Moore

English comic book writer and professional Rasputin lookalike Alan Moore is held to be a driving force behind making comics more respectable and open to adult audiences - ironic from a self-confessed wizard (no seriously, he may actually be Rasputin). Part of the 1980s British invasion of comic book writers working in America, Moore quickly created his mark, spearheading a more sinister style with dark moody tones.

V For Vendetta, From Hell, The Killing Joke, League of Extraordinary Gentleman: each one critically acclaimed, groundbreaking and adapted into films seemingly designed to piss off Alan Moore. Seriously, Alan Moore is really at his funniest when he talks about film adaptations of his work.

His seminal story Watchmen is regarded by many in the industry to be the greatest story ever told in comics. It's pretty easy to agree with Moore on film adaptations here, as the original comic contains far fewer giant blue CGI dong shots.

Wesley Cunningham-Burns hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
