In an age of westerns and war movies, selling guns is like selling a town its only supply of water - pretty easy. With so many companies selling toy and replica guns, many started to vary the types they sold, which is where this gets weird.

In particular, the amount of machine guns is especially strange. Selling stuff that appeals to young audiences is logical marketing – but heavy machinery is rarely used by film heroes, which makes a 'Tripod Machine Gun' more than a little bizarre. Sure, it’d deter basically any sibling from entering your room, but there are easier ways to do that than getting artillery installed in it.

Also, in true comic advert form, the actual written portion of the ad is endlessly mysterious. From the line ‘imagine this thrill as you advance with your machine gun blasting the enemy’, we can only presume this advert was written specifically for the kid from Home Alone, because otherwise children tend to have very few genuine enemies.
