10 Future Versions Of Heroes BETTER Than The Original

The nineties brought us the re-imagined future versions of many of Marvel's superheroes in their 2099 comic line. Spider-Man 2099 was one of the few who had staying power, and for good reason - this future hero gives the original Spider-Man a run for his money.

Instead of being a high school student accidentally bitten by a radioactive spider, Spider-Man 2099 is the alter ego of Miguel O'Hara, a scientist who heads the genetics program at Alchemax. Miguel is working to create superhumans, like Spider-Man, but being the morally upstanding guy he is, decides to quit after a test subject dies.

His boss won't have that and tricks Miguel into getting addicted to a drug that only Alchemax can legally supply. Miguel tries to change his genetic code so that he will no longer be addicted, and instead is sabotaged by a coworker - resulting in the birth of Spider-Man 2099.

While he doesn't have spider sense, Miguel does have almost all of the other powers of Peter Parker's Spider-Man. Spider-Man 2099 also has enhanced vision (and can see in the dark), super speed, retractable talons, poisoned fangs that can paralyze people, better healing powers, and organic webbing he can shoot.

Basically: more powers, grittier back story, and (let's be honest) a cooler costume.

West loves pop culture, movies, comics and TV-shows just as much as you do. Probably. Since you're reading this. Also, she has a cat. He's pretty awesome.
