10 Future Versions Of Heroes BETTER Than The Original

2. Carrie Kelley Robin

Batman Beyond
DC Comics

In the future alternate-universe of Frank Miller's "The Dark Knight Returns" Batman's Robin is newcomer Carrie Kelley. Undoubtedly a better hero then the in-universe's Dick Grayson, but how does she compare to the original Robin in mainstream canon?

Dick Grayson became Bruce Wayne's ward after his parents were murdered. He was carefully trained to be Robin. Carrie Kelley bought her own Robin costume, snuck out of her absentee parents' home, then took to the streets, fighting crime with a slingshot and firecrackers.

The streetwise 13-year-old earns Batman's trust by saving him mid-battle. She drags his body back to his tank-style Batmobile, and uses her Girl Scout training to help give medical care until Alfred can step in. This earns her Batman's true name and an invitation to the Batcave. Carrie's got courage, grit and a fighting spirit. She's also got Nightwing's approval.

In The All New Batman: The Brave and the Bold #13, where all Robins (from past, present, future and alternate timelines) must join together to save Batman, Nightwing says that while Carrie Kelley might not physically be the strongest of all the Robins, she makes up for it with her enthusiasm and attitude.

Carrie Kelley is something special: able to improvise on the fly, a tech extraordinaire, and a girl who earned her way to being Robin through sheer force of will and determination.

West loves pop culture, movies, comics and TV-shows just as much as you do. Probably. Since you're reading this. Also, she has a cat. He's pretty awesome.
