There's no denying the MCU has given the source material a great boost in terms of exposure and The Infinity Saga will go down in history as one of the finest examples of superhero movies, but the story seems a little silly when you find out the true reason for Thanos' actions.

You see, the Mad Titan isn't the altruistic, environmentally conscious being he would have you believe. Dive into Jim Starlin's epic Infinity Gauntlet and you'll find that the plot is actually about a man who can't deal with rejection, as his many attempts to literally court Death fail miserably.

There's no reason that "Thanos tries to get a girlfriend" should have turned into one of comics' most iconic stories, yet somehow Starlin managed to take the simple premise and turn it into a catastrophic event that saw universe's heroes attempt to bring back the billions of lives that were lost.

Thanos never did get the girl, but thankfully fans were given an incredible story that left its mark on the entire Marvel universe for years to come.
