James "Rhodey" Rhodes has been Tony Stark's confidant and friend since Iron man's inception. Meeting Rhodes shortly after his escape from a terrorist cell, Stark was quick to offer the US Marine a job as his personal pilot.

After finishing his tour of duty and a further series of events, Rhodes eventually accepted the job offer and would go on to act as Stark's emotional support and confidant in the Armoured Avenger's heroic exploits.

Rhodey would even fill in for Stark as Iron Man for sometime, later acquiring his own personal armour as the hero War Machine.

To this the day both heroes continue to view one another as their go to in an emotional crisis.
