10 Greatest Comic Book Super-Villains

9. Doctor Doom

Doctor Doom Nearly everything about Doctor Doom screams classic supervillain €“ first off, his name is Doctor Doom. And it's not even something he's made up for himself €“ his real name is Victor Von Doom. Amazing! He's also encased in armour after a terrible accident scarred him horribly, AND he has a green cape! The look is absolutely perfect. Couple this with his genius level intellect, his enormous ego, his desire for world domination, and the fact that he's ruler of his own country, the fictional Latveria in Eastern Europe, and he's basically the full package €“ Marvel supervillain, Star Wars villain and Bond villain all rolled into one. Cast as the antagonist of the Fantastic Four, Doom's origins are tied in with Reed Richards' as all of the best supervillain's stories are. The two were both young men working in the same university but, though Reed reached out to Victor, the two didn't get along and Victor's social awkwardness left him bitter and alone €“ until he began building Doombots! Yes, he has an army of robotic clones! Brilliant. If you want to read an excellent book that humanises the character and explains his origins, check out Ed Brubaker's Books of Doom, which takes an almost traditional Russian novel approach to Doom's story, with wonderful art from Pablo Raimondi.
