10 Greatest Comic Book Villains With ZERO Superpowers

8. Mysterio

Mysterio Spider-Man
Marvel Comics

Quentin Beck has been stirring trouble as Mysterio all the way back in Amazing Spider-Man #13. Beck was a stuntman and special effects movie designer who longed to be a movie star. But there was a problem - he was deemed too ugly for the big-screen. (Yes, that was his original motivation for becoming a full-time supervillain.)

Desperate for the limelight, Beck formed a new plan. After creating technology that simulated advanced holograms, Beck staged crimes and then stopped criminals (himself) in the guise of a new superhero, Mysterio. When Spider-Man realised the master illusionist was up to no good, the wallcrawler vowed to put a stop to him. Because of his Spider-Sense, the web-slinger was able to see through Mysterio's illusions and defeat him in battle.

Because Spidey instinctively knows when he's in danger, you'd assume Mysterio's tech was useless against the Web-head. Instead of accepting defeat, Mysterio started using hallucinogens against Spider-Man, which rendered the hero's Spider-Sense obsolete.

Even when Mysty is seemingly defeated, the extravagant criminal usually has a trick up his sleeve. On many occasions, he's used holograms to give the illusion (literally) that he died or let himself be arrested while the real Mysterio slipped away.
