10 Greatest Jack Kirby Characters
8. Orion
The biggest contribution Jack Kirby had to DC Comics was his Fourth World series. Indeed, the writer created a whole new part of the universe with the inception of the New Gods. With this came new worlds, technology, and Gods, and the most heroic and complex New God to emerge was Orion.
The son of Darkseid, Orion is an essential Kirby character that combines the cosmic with sci-fi. He's a being as powerful as Superman, a sporadic member of the Justice League, and is constantly battling the threat of his dictatorial father. Unable to fly, Orion is often seen being transported by some of Kirby's brilliant technological designs. Orion's use of technology wasn't something Kirby was able to draw inspiration from the world around him; instead, he had to create all of these designs from scratch.
Being the son of Darkseid, Orion is shown with more flaws than most other heroic characters. Part of his parentage makes the character prone to lash out in anger, making him more interesting by being less predictable than those around him.
