10 Greatest Marvel/DC Team-Ups

3. Batman vs. The Incredible Hulk

With set-up that's instantly tantalising to any comic fan, writer Len Wein and artist Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez give us a world in which Bruce Banner is working for WayneTech on a "gamma-gun" that will, he hopes, cure him of being the Hulk. It's not entirely clear why technology designed to heal someone would be shaped like a weapon, but we're not left to ponder that for too long as the Joker soon appears to steal the device, followed shortly by none other than the Caped Crusader. After using the gun on the Shaper of Worlds - who starts to freak out and shapeshift into a whole host of villains from Bats' and Banner's Rogues Gallery - the Joker convinces a Hulked-out Banner that Batman ("pointy ears", if you're asking the Green Goliath) is his true enemy, and thus the purpose of the book is fulfilled. It's a pretty thin plot to get the two leads in the ring together, but Wein and Garcia-Lopez bring enough fun and panache to the proceedings to make the whole thing a satisfying super-tussle.
