5. Apollo

Much like others on this list, Apollo started his super career in StormWatch, but this time in the very secretive black ops team version.

This team failed on a mission leaving only two members alive - Apollo and The Midnighter - who went undercover and lived on the streets for a period of time before being welcomed back to fully fledged Earth saving heroes.

Once in The Authority, Apollo became the team’s heavy hitter given his huge list of powers including - flight, super strength, super speed, solar blasts, invulnerability and more. He was basically Superman in another costume.

Apollo was part of some of the most controversial stories in the Authority’s first run and is also half of one of comic books’ most celebrated same sex relationships, marrying The Midnighter and adopting Jenny Quantum.
