10 Greatest Sacrifices In Comic Book History

5. Captain America Dies At The Hands Of Thanos

Steve Rogers popped up earlier in this list, but being the valiant and noble hero that he is, he has sacrificed himselfon more than one occasion. Thanks to Joss Whedon€™s post credit scene in Avengers Assemble, and Thanos€™ cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy, audiences are quickly becoming aware of the Infinity Gauntlet story-line which we will be seeing adapted on screen in the culmination of Marvel's Phase Three of films. In this story, Marvel€™s heroes assembled to launch a full on attack to prevent Thanos from continuing his seemingly unstoppable attempt to destroy all sentient life in the universe. After Thanos defeats Marvel€™s heroes, only one man is left standing. Captain America, being the last surviving hero, attempted to thwart Thanos€™ plan with a last ditch assault. Unsurprisingly, the Mad Titan came out on top, killing Cap and leaving nobody to stop him, or so he thought. Turns out Adam Warlock and Silver Surfer had expected this plan to fail and had devised a different way of stopping the powerful villain.
