10 Greatest Splash Pages In Marvel Comic Book History

7. Black Panther Unleashes His Fury - Jungle Action #8

Spider Man No More
Marvel Comics

Though he first appeared in a Fantastic Four story, the Black Panther got his first regular starring role in the now-forgotten Jungle Action series of Marvel comics.

Under the Marvel name, the series ran for 24 issues between 1972 and 1976. The Panther first appeared in the fifth issue and would star as the main character until the end of its run.

Jungle Action was the first Marvel series to present stories in a multi-issue arc, rather than single issue one shots. The first saga, Panther's Rage, ran from issues 6-18 and gave us this incredible scene of the hero in action.

T'Challa, King of Wakanda and our cat-based hero, is facing an uprising in his homeland. He is forced to don the black suit and dive into battle, which is exactly what he does in this double-page panel from issue #8.

Not only is Black Panther attacking two dudes at once, he's also kicking a dinosaur. Wait a second... dinosaurs? And spaceships? What the hell is going?

This spread is packed with information without ever feeling overstuffed. It tells a story, portrays a character, and looks badass all in one go.

Can't ask for much more, really.
