10 Harmless Comic Book Heroes Who Became Total Badasses

6. Martian Manhunter

Aquaman Badass
DC Comics

The Martian Manhunter is one member of the Justice League who had a little more of a half-baked origin in DC comics after first appearing in 1955.

Manhunter was not a very serious figure in his debut run. Not having a clearly defined set of powers as well as the awesome backstory that we are familiar with today meant the Manhunter was more of a foil for other members of the Justice League to bounce off, rather than a truly significant hero in his own right.

Also, his vulnerability to fire didn't exactly make him the hardest of adversaries to take on.

However, the Manhunter of today is no joke. His powers are more clearly defined and beefed up to the point he is considered not only one of the strongest psychic users in DC comics, but one of the most powerful beings in the entire universe.

Even Superman has warned people not to mess with J'onn J'onzz as his more basic powers of flight and super-strength are comparable to the Man of Steel's. Batman has also claimed the Martian's sleuth skills rank alongside those of the Dark Knight and Superman, making the Manhunter one of DC's greatest Detectives.
