10 Harmless Comic Book Heroes Who Became Total Badasses

3. Spider-Man

Aquaman Badass
Marvel Comics

Spider-Man is one of the greatest comic book heroes of all time, but he doesn't exactly have the most inspiring skillset compared to some of his peers.

Peter Parker's arachnid-like abilities do have their fair share of benefits and uniqueness, yet that hasn't stopped Parker from developing his own gadgets to further augment them. That said, his genius-level intellect can only go so far to increase his superhero prowess.

Having largely remained the same in terms of abilities since his debut in 1965, when or how exactly did he graduate into being a certified badass?

While Spidey isn't lacking in heroic deeds, what makes him stand out as a badass in Marvel Comics is down to the simplest, and most natural of qualities - relatability.

Spider-Man is just a regular guy when all is said and done. Readers have known this since his debut as a shy and socially awkward teenager, struggling to deal with the pressures of everyday school-life, let alone being a superhero.

Spider-Man's struggles with identity, loss, direction, and coming to terms with the limits of his own abilities are what makes the character so endearing. Sometimes Spidey has royally screwed up and lost jobs, relationships and loved ones. But he keeps going overcoming adversity in the same way that ordinary people do.

It is that above all else that makes Spider-Man the badass that he is.
