10 Heartwarming Marvel Moments That Made Fans Cry

9. Captain America Gets To Grow Old - House Of M

House Of M is less a story and more a conga line of kicks to the nuts thinly veiled as a story. But what separates this nut kicking conga from its contemporaries is that it knows how most effectively to hurt its audience and its characters. Almost every major character death is reversed, because as shown in this entry, the cruelest thing this story knows is keeping the characters alive.

The basic setup is that Scarlet Witch, tired of her life constantly being the world's punching bag, and now staring down a death sentence from the Avengers when her powers grow out of control, decides that the best way to finally be left alone is to alter the entire world specifically in such a way that everyone who has it in for her gets everything they ever wanted. Everyone Spider-Man loves is alive, mutants are now the majority population on the planet, and Scarlet Witch gets her children back.

Which then brings us to Steve Rogers, aka Captain America.

Steve's one true wish was to never have been frozen, getting to grow old with his friends and loved ones. The heroes have to leave him out of the conflict because of his age, even choosing not to use their event MacGuffin to return his memories to him.

Fleeting a moment though it was, Captain America finally got his due reward for everything he had done for the world.
