6. Jeffrey Dahmer: An Unauthorized Biography Of A Serial Killer

One of the most notorious horror/crime comics of all time, Hart D. Fisher's Jeffrey Dahmer biography is about as independent as the independent press gets - right down to the scratchy artwork and writing, riddled with typos and grammatical errors.

This true crime book does exactly what it says on the tin - being a deep-dive on the life and crimes of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer. While the book itself is relatively non-explicit, it drew ire from the families of Dahmer's victims, who filed a lawsuit against Fisher and his publishing company, Boneyard Press.

Still, the lack of explicit gore doesn't prevent this Unauthorized Biography from making for a deeply unsettling read. Whether it's the creepy artwork, Fisher's matter-of-fact writing style, or simply the nature of Dahmer's crimes, this book makes for queasy reading.

Far better is Derf Backderf's My Friend Dahmer (later turned into a movie), but this independent, largely reviled little comic is the most disturbing of the Dahmer true-crime books.
