10 Huge Differences Between Marvel Movies And The Comics
1. The Identity Of The Mandarin
When the Mandarin was first announced as the villain of Iron Man 3, fans were pretty excited to see Tony Stark's nemesis finally make the jump to the big screen.
It was fairly obvious though that some details of the Mandarin's origin story would have to be changed for the MCU. After all, a Chinese man who decides to conquer the world using ten magic rings he robbed from the corpse of a dead alien dragon is a little far fetched even for Marvel. Instead, the Mandarin was reimagined as the leader of the Ten Rings terrorist group.
However, that wasn't the really big change. In a twist that was more than a little bit divisive, Tony Stark discovered that the Mandarin was actually a drunken actor named Trevor Slattery. The real Mandarin was scientist Aldrich Killian, who used Trevor to hide his illegal activities.
It was a brilliant and hilarious twist, but some fans were understandably disappointed that the traditional Mandarin didn't make an appearance. However, those fans were thrown a bone in the one-shot Hail to the King in which Trevor was kidnapped by agents of the really real Mandarin in revenge for Trevor besmirching his bad name.
