10 Huge Differences Between Marvel Movies And The Comics

2. The Nova Corps

The intergalactic cops introduced in Guardians of the Galaxy share the same basic principle as their comic counterparts. However, a key difference is that the Nova Corps in the comics have a vast array of powers that make them less like Brooklyn 99 in space and more like DC's Green Lantern Corps (which is hardly the first time that one of the Big Two has stolen their competitors character and just changed the costume colours).

Nova first appeared when the last surviving member of Xandar's elite guard passed on the Nova Force to teenager Richard Rider, allowing him to fly at superhuman speeds and fire energy blasts as a "human rocket". Richard starred in his own series and was a member of the New Warriors until he eventually decided to leave Earth to set up a new version of the Nova Corps focused on protecting the entire galaxy.

After Richard was killed trying to stop Thanos, the Nova Force was passed on to another teenager named Sam Alexander. In true comic book fashion, Richard eventually got better and now they both serve as Nova.

Another version of the Nova Corps recently appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy. This group seems to more closely resemble the movie version of powerless space cops.
