10 Idiotic Mistakes That Almost Ruined Spider-Man
2. Giving Him Five Interconnected Titles At Once - The Nineties
The comic book boom of the nineties meant that many of the most popular franchises received numerous books in order to capitalise on the increased demand, and Spider-Man was no different.
Over the decade, Spidey had nine titles to his name: The Amazing Spider-Man, Spectacular Spider-Man and Spider-Man Unlimited, just to name a few. Expecting readers to keep up with all of these books was a tall order in itself, but then Marvel threw in the additional curveball of making five of the titles interconnected - each of them were necessary reading if fans wanted to keep up with the main ongoing narrative.
The worst part is times haven't changed all that much. Right now Marvel are putting out: Amazing Spider-Man, Amazing Spider-Man: Daily Bugle, Marvel's Spider-Man (Gamerverse), Miles Morales: Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Noir - not to mention tangentially related properties like Venom, Black Cat or Amazing Mary Jane.
Sure, the current books aren't all required reading to understand one another, but it's still ridiculous regardless. Just as DC have a problem with Bat-books dominating their releases, Marvel share the same issue with Spider-Man.
