10 Image Graphic Novels You Must Read Before You Die

7. East Of West, Volume 1: The Promise

The Walking Dead Image Comics
Information Redux

East of West is best described by the series' writer, Jonathan Hickman, when he said, "The things that divide us are stronger than the things that unite us." East of West looks and feels like a Western tale, but it is far more seeing as it revolves around a dystopian, Sci-Fi world whose fate rests with none other than the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

The first volume of East of West compiles the first five issues under the title, The Promise. In it, we meet the Four Horsemen who are presented as the heroes of the tale.

Death is a man who feels betrayed and is best described as a cross between Clint Eastwood's Man with No Name and Roland Deschain from Stephen King's Dark Tower series.

The other Horsemen, War, Famine, and Conquest, feel more abandoned than betrayed, but all four work to fulfill a prophesy made more than 50 years before in this amazing comic book, which is being developed into a television series for Amazon Studios.
