10 Important Lessons Comic Book Superheroes Taught Us

4. Superman Teaches Us To Pick Our Battles

While some may find Superman's ironclad sense of morality boring, if anything it's the exact thing that's made him such a beloved and endearing character for over eighty years. He's truly a bastion of goodness, and the world could use a little more of that.

This makes it difficult to pick just one lesson of his to talk about. So, rather than take a walk down the character's memory lane, let's take a look at something more recent.

Early on in Superman's Rebirth run the Man of Steel is on a family outing to the fair with Louis and their son Jon. After a short meeting with a very rude clown, Clark tells Jon that not every action deserves a reaction.

It's brief, to the point, and something that can save you a lot of trouble when keeping in mind. Just think of every interaction that drained the energy right out of you after engaging in. Many situations don't necessitate involvement, and only cause more stress when reacted to.

The keyword here is "deserves". Engagement requires energy that usually could be better left saved for the things that actually matter. Not every battle has to be fought, so pick wisely.
