10 Inappropriate Stories You Won't Believe Marvel Comics Published

9. X-23's Career Change

Invisible Woman Malice
Marvel Comics

Wolverine's clone, X-23, first appeared in the animated series, X-Men: Evolution. Created by an offshoot of Weapon X to kill and replace Wolverine, the X-Men convinced her to abandon her crusade when she realised she was being manipulated. The character was an instant hit and was incorporated into the comics six months later and her origin was implemented into the film, Logan.

Considering she became the official Wolverine in 2016, it's clear X-23 is a popular character. This is a miracle considering how bad her debut was in the comics. Instead of showing her upbringing in a Weapon X facility, Marvel thought it would be best to introduce the character as a teenage prostitute working for a pimp called Zebra Daddy.

Considering X-23 was trained by the best soldiers on Earth in espionage and infiltration, it seems like a bit of a left-field move for her to have made - as if the whole move was devised purely for shock value.

Her origin story was told in the comics one year later in the excellent six-part mini-series, simply called X-23. Many readers regard this six-parter as her true debut and pretend her actual first appearance never happened.
