10 Incredible Batman Comics (That Don't Star Bruce Wayne)

7. Red Robin

Tim Drake wanted to be Robin. He deduced who Batman was and had no aspirations past being the best Boy Wonder to Bruce Wayne’s Dark Knight. He did a lot during his tenure as well, being lead on the Teen Titans and having a fairly successful solo series all his own. But this was just the turning point for the character.

Following the “death” of Bruce Wayne, Tim Drake was the only member of the Bat-Family that felt that Bruce Wayne was still alive. Striking out on his own after losing the Battle for the Cowl, Tim Drake gives himself a complete character makeover and begins a global search for any evidence that he’s not wrong about Bruce Wayne.

There are tons of reasons why this is an incredible book, with a costume reminiscent of the Kingdom Come Red Robin outfit, and Tim going by his adopted name Tim Wayne, this is him stepping out of Batman’s shadow, but at the same time trying to emulate Bruce. Chris Yost really sums this all up beautifully at one point by having Tim narrating the difference between wearing a domino mask as a sidekick and a cowl as a hero, and it stood out as one of the best books of the Batman: Reborn era.
