10 Incredible Comic Books With Near PERFECT Endings
9. The Final Night
Written by Karl Kessel and drawn by Stuart Immonen, The Final Night is five week-long limited series with multiple comic tie-ins across multiple DC Comic titles throughout the month of September 1996. The story follows the sun being extinguished by an extraterrestrial and the attempts of Earth’s heroes and villains to reignite it.
An alien named Dusk arrived on Earth to warn of the coming of the Sun-Eater, an otherworldly being that has consumed countless suns across the galaxy. Despite Dusk’s claims that the Sun-Eater is unstoppable, the Justice League still made an attempt to bring it down. Mister Miracle attempted to use Boom Tube technology to move the Sun-Eater to another dimension but failed. Several heroes attempted to create a “second” sun, but the Sun-Eater quickly consumed that and continued to Earth’s sun undeterred.
After being attacked by people that blamed her for the coming of the Sun-Eater, Duck planned to write off the Earth as deserving its fate, but the Phantom Stranger showed her that there was goodness in the world. Scientists realized that the sun was losing energy but not mass. Lex Luthor created a ship but refused to pilot it, forcing the depowered Superman to take the job. However, Ferro Lad took the ship in Kal's place but disgraced hero Hal Jordan teleported the young hero away and sacrificed his own life to reignite the sun.
