DC Comics

Superman: Birthright is a 12-issue limited series by Mark Waid and Leinil Francis Yu. Freelance reporter Clark Kent traveled to Africa, got caught up in the Ghuri and Turaaba Clan conflict, and tried to aid Ghuri leader Kobe Asuru. He used his powers secretly to uncover assassination attempts and corruption by the Turaaba but failed to save Asuru.

Clark returned to Smallville and used the data tablet that was in his rocket ship to learn about Krypton from the images he saw. With his mother’s assistance, he created a uniform to perform super heroics and a more meek persona for Clark Kent. He then traveled to Metropolis to secure a job at the Daily Planet. When a robot helicopter fired on the Planet building, CK stopped it and tracked it back to Lex Luthor.

Having discovered his own link to Kryptonian images from the past, Luthor outed the now-dubbed Superman as an alien and created an army of “Kryptonian invaders”, painting Clark as an advance scout. Lois Lane infiltrated LexCorp and Superman exposed the invaders as actors, and Clark wrote an article connecting Luthor to the invaders. As Superman confronted Lex near his Krypton viewer, the Man of Steel heard his parents call the baby Kal-El and realized that was his name. He yelled to his parents that he made it, and Jor-El and Lara kissed as the planet died.
