10 Indie Comics You Must Read Before You Die

2. Saga

While Saga is arguably famous enough to not be considered an indie title, it is still far less well known that it deserves to be, given it is one of the best fantasy comics of the year - with one of the most complex and engaging examples of worldbuilding to exist in a standalone comic possibly of all time.

The biggest downside of Saga is that it is a standalone title for the universe, as almost every character is deserving of at least a spin-off title - both major and minor characters.

It seems that Saga's writer - the critically acclaimed Brian K. Vaughan - possesses a limitless imagination. This is helped by the fact that the comic contains just about every genre within its story - managing to be a romance, war, mystery and coming-of-age story, all meshed together to make a masterfully crafted narrative that fits together like a wonderful sci-fi jigsaw.

If Star Wars mixed with Lord of The Rings sounds like your comic-based Valhalla, Saga is definitely worth a read.
