10 Insane Alternate Versions Of Captain America You Won't Believe Exist
1. The Exiles
The Exiles has quickly become one of the most exciting and enjoyable Marvel stories going, and its exploration of Peggy Carter's Captain America - first introduced in Marvel's Puzzle Quest game - has been its most exciting.
Written by Saladin Ahmed and with art by Javier Rodriguez, the third issue in the series devotes most of its time to Peggy, and explains why a British officer has donned the red white and blue of the star-spangled banner, and not of the union flag.
The answer is somewhat tragic, as in this universe (where the Second World War never ended, by the way), both Steve Rogers and Professor Erskine were assassinated. Peggy then stepped in to take Steve's place, becoming America's first super-soldier in a way that transcends borders, and truly taps into the image the Captain has provided over the decades - not just to Americans, but people the world over.
Peggy's Cap has only been around for a few months now, but her design is brilliant, her characterisation fantastic, and her presence vital. If only all alternate Caps were as good as her.
