10 Insane Alternate Versions Of The Avengers You Won't Believe Exist

7. Secret Empire (Hydra)

Avengers Ancient
Marvel Comics/Mark Brooks

Unlike the Dark Avengers, this evil incarnation subverts the original team in probably the most unsatisfying way possible, with the infamous Hydra-aligned Captain America leading this version of the group.

This team was formed during the titular Secret Empire event, a controversial storyline that understandably angered a lot of fans through its treatment of Cap, twisting the first Avenger from a symbol of freedom into the icon of a terrorist organisation.

But, going back to the group, the roster is made up of a Zola-controlled Vision, a possessed Scarlet Witch, Black Ant, Taskmaster, the Superior Octopus and, most disappointingly, Deadpool and Thor Odinson (who joined of their own free will).

While this incarnation of the Avengers may have provided us with some beautiful comic book covers - drawn by the immaculate Mark Brooks - they will never be anyone's favourite due to the nature of their introduction.
