10 Insane Alternate Versions Of Thor You Won't Believe Exist
3. Beta Ray Bill
When Walt Simonson decided he wanted a fresh start with Thor, he came up with Beta Ray Bill, an alien with a face only a mother could love.
The Korbinite cutie would first show up in The Mighty Thor #337 way back in November of 1983, when an eagle eye Nick Fury spotted a UFO passing through their quadrant. Being far too busy to go check it out themselves, they send Thor, who comes face to face with Bill.
After battling to a stalemate, Thor reverts to his human form and Beta Ray, being worthy, take his Hammer and assumes the role of the Thunder God.
The most amazing thing about this character is that he is one of very few alternative Thors who have stuck around in Prime Earth's timeline, being an ally to the Asgardians for over thirty years now. Needless to say, it's kind of hard to explain his longevity.
Maybe Simonson himself put it best when, during the 2010 Baltimore Comic-Con, he said "...I created Bill because he's noble, and he's designed to kill. He's got a great purpose as a warrior, and also the noble ability. That makes him "worthy" whatever that may be."
