If it wasn't for the 'What If...' comics, this list would've been a hell of a lot shorter, but thankfully they exist and you get to revel in the genius that is 'What If The X-Men Had Stayed In Asgard?'

After Loki kidnapped the New Mutants, the X-Men travelled to the hallowed land to save them and, when they were successful, they were offered a choice, to go or stay. In the normal timeline they chose to return to Earth, but in the alternative one they had all voted and decided to set up shop in Asgard.

Storm became the Goddess of Thunder and, after the Asgardians chose Loki as their new leader and her as his champion, the Trickster God is whisked away by a giant monster - that of Thor as a giant toad.

The trick is eventually undone and the plot foiled by all, leaving each member of the alliance to reap their reward. Some chose love, like Rogue, others chose to become Valkyries. Ororo Munroe, however, became the leader of the Asgardians, and sat upon the throne while Thor went off back to Earth.
