10 Insane Alternate Versions Of Superman You Won't Believe Exist
3. British Superman
A large number of the Superman Elseworlds tales are predicated on baby Clark Kent, having escaped the exploding Planet Krypton, crash-landing somewhere other than the Smallville field where Ma and Pa Kent find him and raise him to be good, virtuous and polite. And a superhero. That's true too of True Brit, where Kal-El finds himself in Weston-super-Mare, and co-writer John Cleese revels in making an absolute mockery of his home country through the lens of the Man of Steel. Named Colin Clark - his adoptive parents' corruption of Kal-El - the young superhero is raised with the stiff upper lip and "what would the neighbours think?" mindset of a stereotypical young Englishman, which means that he keeps his amazing powers under wraps so as not to draw attention to himself or cause any trouble. It's only after becoming a writer for an awful tabloid newspaper and saving The Rutles (a Beatles parody whose films and albums featured various Monty Python members) whilst pursuing a muck-racking story that he adopts the Superman identity, which of course includes a bombastic Union Jack over his costume. Pretty goofy.
