Marvel Comics has always been a western pop culture icon, but that doesn't mean the publisher hasn't spread into other markets. One of the most successful of these projects was the anime-inspired Marvel Mangaverse, which tackled Marvel's greatest characters in the style of Japanese manga.

The characters of this universe, known as Earth-2301, are entirely different from their western counterparts. The books of the Marvel Mangaverse offered up an alternative version of characters, which of course, include the likes of the Fantastic Four, who arguably have a much better name on Earth-2301.

Instead of the story known widely to Marvel's western audience, a completely new origin was created. A scientific base on the Moon was researching of the "Descriptor Theory." As they often do in comics, an experiment does the unexpected, and the base was destroyed while half the Moon was pushed into an alternate universe.

Only four scientists survived the incident, and they received amazing powers as a result.

Reed Richards could stretch his brain, Sioux Storm could create forcefields, Jonatha Storm could engulf himself in burning plasma, and Ben Grimm became geokinetic. Together, they formed the Metascale Metatalent Response Team Fantastic Four, which is arguably the coolest team name in all of comics.
