When Marvel launched its 2099 series, the Hulk managed to get his own book and 22nd-century version in the form of John Eisenhart. The origin of Eisenhart's transformation differed somewhat from Bruce Banner's a century before, but it was chaotically intertwined with the Hulk of the 20th century.

In 2099, there existed a cult called the Knights of Banner, and their only goal in life was to create a new Hulk. There was another goal involving getting their story optioned as a movie, but their main point in life was to recreate the Hulk in their time.

Eisenhart ends up joining the group, and a member who wasn't too happy with his lot in life ends up triggering a gamma explosion, which serves to fulfill the cult's goal and transforms the newby into the Hulk. The 2099 version of the Hulk was vastly different from his 20th-century counterpart in several ways.

He wasn't a savage Hulk, which meant his strength didn't grow exponentially when he became enraged. He also had what can only be described as a prehensile tongue, which extended several feet from his mouth. Additionally, his fingernails were extended well beyond his fingers into claws, which could tear through just about anything, and he had a wild mane of hair.
