10 Insane Times Comics Revealed A Hero's Future

3. Iron Lad - Young Avengers

King Thor
Marvel Comics

After the explosive dissolution of the Avengers in the equally explosive Avengers Disassembled, the Marvel universe was left without an Avengers team. That is until a group of teens who were best described as the kid sidekick versions of the most iconic Avengers came around.

The most gratuitous perhaps was Iron Lad, the Iron Man stand-in. It's a fantastic series everyone should read, but one of the biggest twists came when the comic revealed who Iron Lad really was.

The reason why it's so bonkers? Well, Iron Lad was not the future teen version of Nathaniel Richards, the time-traveling villain Kang the Conqueror.

Kang has been a staple villain since the 1960s, so having the young version of him become a hero to fight that inevitable destiny is a reveal that left readers in awe. It is one of the big twists that made the Young Avengers book such a hit with readers.
