10 Insane Times Superheroes Developed New Powers

1. Kyle Rayner

Daredevil God Without Fear
DC Comics

Kyle Rayner was just a regular guy when he was chosen to become a member of the Green Lantern Corps. While that made him an immensely powerful being, that isn't the change we're talking about. There was a time when Rayner's abilities got overcharged far greater than his GL powers, and it's become something of a trend for the character ever since.

The Green Lantern Corps is powered via the Green Lantern Central Battery on Oa. That battery is powered by the emotional spectrum of willpower, which manifests in the green wavelength of light. What was kept hidden for eons was the fact that the power was derived from the entity known as Ion, the cosmic entity that represented willpower.

Ion remained in the Power Battery until it was destroyed, and after a quick run through the cosmos, it found Kyle Rayner and chose him to be its host. This turned Rayner into the most powerful GL in existence as he was essentially the same power that created the Corps in the first place.

As Ion, Rayner had full control over the sum total of the energies contained in the battery, making him nearly omnipotent. He was able to control all of space, reality and time, making him akin to someone wielding the Infinity Gauntlet over in the Marvel Universe.
