10 Joker Fates Worse Than Death

8. He Became Sane

Wonder Woman Joker
DC Comics

The Joker revels in his insanity and he values it more than all the money or novelty chattering teeth in the world. One of the worst things that could happen to Joker is to have that unique and warped mind removed from him and for him to become stuck with the same ordered mind that everyone else has. There have been a few instances that the Joker has been forced into sanity and been made to confront his actions.

In one instance, the clown forces his way onto the Injustice Gang and obtains the Philosopher’s Stone. He begins to create worldwide havoc until the Martian Manhunter briefly reorders his mind to get him to give up the Stone. Joker, made sane, becomes despondent realizing what he’s done until Manhunter has to give up on the effort of holding back Joker’s madness. In another storyline called “Gone Sane”, Joker believes Batman had died and Joker snaps, has surgery, and becomes an accountant.

Another story sees Batman force-feeding Joker a large number of psychotropic drugs which render him completely sane. He takes the name Jack Napier and becomes a politician which makes Batman’s style of vigilantism unpopular in Gotham, putting the hero at odds with the police.
