10 Judge Dredd Comics You Must Read Before You Die

8. The Apocalypse War

Judge Dredd
2000 AD

And talking of the Apocalypse War. Living in Mega-City can't be the most pleasant experience at the best of time, so imagine how bad things must get after it's invaded by its Russian counterpart, East-Meg One.

With the place still reeling from the fallout of the Block Mania storyline, where a Soviet agent infects the water supply with a drug that drives everyone bat-s**t murder crazy, the Mega-City is ill-prepared for an all-out assault but that's just what happens.

It doesn't take the invaders long before they are almost fully in charge, taking control of the Grand Hall Of Justice and, more importantly, the reigning Chief Judge Griffin, who they swiftly make into their lackey by having him spout pro-Soviet propaganda to the masses until Dredd puts a bullet in his brain.

But just when all seems lost, Dredd's commando unit, including everyone's favorite PSI Judge Anderson, raids a Soviet missile silo and takes it over.

Turning the missiles on their aggressors, they nuke East-Meg One off the face of the planet, while those left within their own walls are soon overpowered by a counter-attack, allowing Dredd and his troops to regain control.
