10 Judge Dredd Comics You Must Read Before You Die

9. Day Of Chaos

Judge Dredd
2000 AD

John Wagner's Day Of Chaos was a nearly year-long epic that spanned forty-six progs, and saw the decimation of eighty-seven percent of the Mega-City One population. As mass destruction goes, it was a doozy.

An assassin called Nadia who has a very large chip on her shoulder - due to Dredd playing a part in helping wipe out her city during the Apocalypse Wars - show's up in the Mega-City with only one thing on her mind. Revenge.

She sets about this task by kidnapping Elmore Yurges, a scientist who has managed to weaponize the disease Toxoplasma Gondii. He is so successful in doing this that his strain is nearly 100% fatal, with the side effect being that anyone exposed to it will become a murderous killing machine before it finally claims them.

When this Chaos Bug is let loose on the people, its impact is devastating, forcing Chief Judge Francisco to enact a law that sees all those infected killed, while certain sections of the city are closed off as uninhabitable.

When the smoke finally clears, 350 million are dead. Francisco resigns, and Dredd is left to warn that "The Mega-City One we knew is gone."
