What powers would you want to become more powerful than Superman? Coating yourself in an impenetrable layer of alien metal, rivalling him in physical qualities, embodying quantum energy itself, manipulating any kind of energy - even magic - absorbing physical matter or time traveling?

If you selected "all of the above", then your answer is the same as Captain Atom's. Harnessing the Quantum Field to gain all of these powers, he has proven himself time and time again as one of the earth's most powerful beings, going toe to toe with some of DC's most powerful characters and often acting as a nuclear deterrent and weapon in various stories.

Just like the Green Lanterns, the only constraint to his powers is his imagination, able to absorb, control and produce potentially infinite amounts of energy, even able to negate other characters' energy based powers. He does become unstable, however, if he absorbs too much energy, displacing him in time to the past or future depending on the kind of energy absorbed.

In the Injustice universe, he sacrificed himself for the resistance in a last ditch effort to kill the evil Superman by blowing himself up. He failed, but probably only because Superman was alive in the game, which takes place in the story's future.
