2019 may as well be labelled the year of Chip, as the writer/artist continues to work wonders on a variety of different characters, with Daredevil only one.

This year, Zdarsky has centred his efforts on the Man Without Fear, the Invaders (comprised of Namor, Captain America and Bucky Barnes), and Spider-Man. As was previously mentioned, Zdarsky had presided over the Spectacular Spider-Man from 2017-onwards, and though he left it behind by the end of last year, in 2019, he's focussed his efforts on telling a different kind of Spidey story altogether.

Spider-Man: Life Story reappraises the entire history of the wall-crawler by rooting in the character in a linear, fixed timeline. Starting in the sixties, in the age of Vietnam, student protest and the Civil Rights Movement, Zdarsky chronicles Peter Parker's history on the page while contextualising it in each decade's respective zeitgeist. In doing so, he reappraises fundamental aspects of Peter's character, and gives way to a more authentic web-slinger.

The addition of longtime Spidey artist Mark Bagley is also welcome; visually and narratively speaking, it enables Life Story to blend the familiar with the unexpected.

The mini-series might only be three issues deep, but it's completely and utterly engrossing. Don't miss it before it wraps later this year.
