10 Marvel Characters You Didn't Know Were Avengers

8. The Fantastic Four

It may seem weird for Marvel's first family to be here but over the years each member of the Fantastic Four has served as an Avenger, even if it's a little odd that the whole group has never been on the team at the same time.

The first two to join were Reed and Sue Richards in Avengers #300 in 1989, they would soon be joined by Johnny Storm nine months later, taking up the cause in Avengers West Coast #50. Ben Grimm wouldn't take up the Avenger mantle until 2010, some twenty-one years after his Fantastic Four brethren, in New Avengers Vol 2 #1.

The idea to include them, but not as a unit, may have been to stop over saturation of the market, or so they wouldn't be assimilated to the point where the Fantastic Four no longer existed, but whatever the reason, Mister Fantastic, The Invisible Woman, The Human Torch, and The Thing have all fought, side by side, with one of the most popular squads to ever grace the comic book industry.

Hopefully, somewhere down the line, this is something that Marvel will return to and, in doing so, give the world one of the best line ups it's ever seen.
