10 Marvel Event Comics That Actually Lived Up To The Hype

6. Death Of Wolverine

These days, most fans are desensitised to their favourite superhero being killed off. A once powerful plot point is now shrugged off as readers know they only have to wait a few issues before something brings them back. However, that doesn't mean writers can't still pull off a devastating event that ends with the hero's death.

Writer Charles Soule took aim at the one character fans thought would never meet his maker. During the build-up, the question on everyone's lips was, how? It's not like writers haven't tried to kill him off, even Wolverine himself has tried to end it all.

Soule had set expectations high as he attempted to do the impossible, but thankfully he came through.

The four-part miniseries saw Logan's healing abilities "switched off". Reed Richards comes to his aid and attempts to find a way of reactivating the power, but Logan refused his help.

As he comes to terms with his new mortality, he tracks down the Weapon X founder, who is trying to recreate the experiment once again. Logan uses his claws one last time to destroy the Adamantium containers, but is covered in the liquid metal which slowly hardens around him until he suffocates.
