4. Wolverine
The original victim of the Weapon X program, Wolverine's past is more tortured than X-23's and Deadpool's combined. He is, according to his backstory, nearly one hundred and forty years old, and in that time he's witnessed more than his fair share of tragedy.
It all starts when Thomas Logan kills his father and, in retaliation, a young James Howlett stabs him to death with his bone claws, only to find out that the man dead at his hands is his biological dad. From here, he runs away from home with his childhood love Rose and ends up in Yukon, but tragedy follows when Logan accidentally kills her.
His life doesn't improve one bit as he loses another lover, Silverfox, to the hands of Victor Creed. He then ends up in the aforementioned Weapon X program. It is here he has adamantium fused to his bones against his will, as well as having his memory wiped, in a procedure so violent that it should kill him and would if it wasn't for his healing factor.
Escaping from this nightmare and eventually becoming an X-Men doesn't mean his life gets any easier, and if you've read 'Old Man Logan' you'll know it doesn't end well for him either.
