10 Messed Up Superman Storylines You Won't Believe Exist
3. Injustice
Once upon a time, anyone looking for an alternate universe story where Superman becomes an outright villain would have to satiate themselves with the likes of Superman: Red Son and Superman: The Dark Side - which are both good comics, but also fairly short comics.
Then Injustice came out, and suddenly if you wanted your fix of jerk Superman, you could now get it weekly. The Man of Steel becoming a murdering dictator is vaguely justified, in the sense that the Joker does set up a scheme where Supes ends up accidentally murdering his wife and unborn child, and naturally this upsets him a little.
But the former hero officially goes past the point of understandable reactions when he begins to systematically murder seemingly every villain that has ever existed, including those such as Solomon Grundy, who are more disturbed than evil. Just to change the minds of anyone who still thinks he might be good, Supes then gets up to all sorts of awful antics, such as getting Victor Zsasz to kill Alfred, and to tweet out Batman's secret identity to force him to go into hiding.
When he's a hero, there are few heroes better than Superman - but when he's a villain, there are few antagonists worse.
