10 Mind-Blowing Iron Man Facts

2. Tony Stark Has A Drinking Problem

Tony Stark's alcoholism was explored deeply in the seminal Demon in a Bottle storyline, widely regarded as one of the greatest Iron Man arcs of all time. By having addiction as the antagonist and pulling no punches in its depiction of it, writers David Michelinie and Bob Layton set Stark apart as Marvel's most relatable hero.

The character's ongoing battle with the demon has become a defining part of Iron Man, and although he's fallen off the wagon a number of times over the years, he usually keeps his addiction in check.

Unlike Michelinie and Layton, Disney has pulled punches when it comes to depicting Stark's drinking habit on the big screen. An alcoholic superhero doesn't really fit in with the House of Mouse's values, even though a villainess who wants to skin dalmatian puppies alive is apparently fine.

Iron Man 2 glosses over the subject by revealing that Stark enjoys the occasional tipple, and Iron Man 3's scribes are said to have been vetoed by the studio when they tabled the idea of exploring his drinking in a deeper way.
