10 Modern Comic Book Runs Destined To Become Classics
These legendary comic runs are destined for the history books.
We've all heard about the legendary comic books runs of years past: Walt Simonson's run on Thor, Frank Miller's run on Daredevil, so on so forth. But maybe you're tired of hearing about Watchmen or the Dark Knight Returns from Gen-X comic geeks for the billionth time.
Surely this medium, filled with such variety and capable of telling such a wide array of stories, has birthed some brand new classics in the time since then? This is especially important to new comic fans, who want something a bit more recent to get into.
Fortunately, there are a ton of great comic runs that have been made since the 1980s - too many to fill a single list. Whether it's the 'Big Two' (Marvel and DC), or material from other publishers, the past couple of decades have produced some truly tremendous material.
But what about those runs that are destined to become the next classics of the medium - those that'll be able, years from now, to stand alongside the likes of Miller's Daredevil, Simonson's Thor or even Chris Claremont's X-Men?
There's creativity here, there and everywhere in the medium today, but these runs are uniquely brilliant.
10. Dan Abnett's Titans
Dan Abnett had a lot of baggage to sort through after the Titans' tumultuous last few years. The New 52 was not very kind to the legendary team at all, erasing most of them out of existence, and beating those it didn't with a stick.
Given this template to work with, Abnett clearly saw only one solution: lighten things up a little for once. The first arc of this run sets the mood going forward perfectly, with an overriding theme of hope and friendship. The Titans, for the first time in too long, felt like actual friends who enjoyed each other's company.
On top of all of that, the artwork is gorgeous, with Brett Booth giving career defining work on the book. The Titans look amazing, with Donna Troy's suit in particular being a standout, finding the perfect balance between skintight spandex that the wonder family is known for, and actual battle armor that would suit an amazon warrior.
