4. Scott Snyder's Batman

Saying the New 52 era of DC comics was a mixed bag would be putting things lightly, but for all of the ups and downs, one of the most constant elements of the era was that Scott Snyder was a perfect choice to run Batman - especially given what direction DC wanted to take the character in at this time.

A lot of Batman's current mythology has come from this exquisite run. From the Court of Owls, to The Black Mirror storyline, to The Death of the Family, most of it came from Scott Snyder's interpretation of the character and his universe. Snyder, being a horror writer by trade, means this Batman series gets into the nitty gritty, gory details of Batman's rogues gallery.

While not all horrifying, a lot of stuff from, for instance, The Black Mirror, will definitely send chills up and down your spine.

It wasn't all perfect of course. Snyder was on Batman for a long time, so statistically speaking, it can't all be good. But the majority of it was, and that's always what matters in the end. Scott Snyder's Batman was an intense, gothic, but still very human look at the storied Caped Crusader.
