10 Modern Comics That TOTALLY Changed Marvel History

When it comes to a plot twist that is both genuinely surprising and totally changes Marvel history, you can't get much better than Secret Invasion. With a plot based around revealing that many of our favourite heroes had been replaced by Skrull imposters, the series served to create a mass upheaval of Marvel's history.

This is because many major events had taken place while Skrulls replaced certain characters, meaning it radically changed the actual history of the human characters, who had instead been kidnapped during this time.

With Black Bolt, Elektra, Spider-Woman and many more turning out to be fleshy green aliens, fans proved equal parts enraptured and furious at the decision to retroactively destroy parts of many characters' pasts, by having these moments of history instead belong to the alien who took their place.

This said, it's one of very few changes that literally nobody could have seen coming - despite the hints placed in the earlier Secret War event - which is something even those who hated the decision have to give the series credit for.
